Healthy Breakfasts to Help Take Care of Yourself

May 11, 2020

Traveling is exciting and adventurous. But sometimes you can be short on time. The freedom and flexibility you have, which is limited only by your own choices, is balanced by a career that's often busy when you're working in a high-demand profession. Whether you are falling out of bed to get to a morning shift or eating your breakfast at 6 p.m. before a night shift, eating a healthy meal is important.

What you eat feeds your cells and immune system. To stay healthy while traveling, it's important to pay attention to the foods you choose. Catching a cold, flu or SARS-CoV-2 will be a wet-blanket during your travels, and can significantly reduce your income while your home laid up sick.

Many experts recommend eating breakfast to help kick-start your metabolism and increase the number of calories you burn throughout the day. Just as important as breakfast, is letting go of late-night snacking, which only packs on the pounds. One thing is guaranteed when you get to work you're not going to have time to kick back and relax over a meal, so it's essential to grab your breakfast before you get there.

Breakfast also gives you the chance to consume vitamins and nutrients that will help keep you moving throughout the morning, feed your immune system and cut back on the number of times your clients hear your stomach growling! Here are some quick and healthy breakfast ideas you can grab and go.

Avocado and Eggs

While this started as a California food trend, it is packed with nutrition and healthy fat. Eggs are high in protein and choline, an essential nutrient for cell structure, DNA synthesis, and a healthy nervous system. Best of all, it only takes the amount of time to make toast in the morning to get this ready. Boil your eggs the day before and set one on the counter as the toast is cooking since it's easier to peel a hardboiled egg after it's reached room temperature. Add a couple of slices of avocado, sliced hard-boiled egg, and maybe a little hot sauce, and you have yourself a quick and easy breakfast.

Smoothies

These are a great way to start the morning, are nutritious, and, best of all, can be poured into a grab-and-go cup and consumed in the car on the way to work. Peanut butter and banana breakfast smoothies, coconut water, and mixed berry, or even your favorite green kale smoothie, will hit the spot and fill your tank. Coconut water is high in potassium, which is deficient in most diets, and helps control blood pressure and reduce water retention. Berries are loaded with antioxidants, high in fiber, and help fight inflammation.

Breakfast bars

Forget the breakfast bars from the grocery store because they're often filled with sugar and processed ingredients. Instead, make your own energy bars, so you know exactly what's going into them. You can customize the recipe to fit your taste and make them ahead so you can just grab and go. In fact, they can be cut into bite-size pieces and packed at work for a quick bite of energy during your shift. Customize them with berries, seeds, nuts and other

ingredients that are great sources of vitamin C and other antioxidants necessary to feed your immune system.

Breakfast popsicles

It may seem out of the ordinary, but on a hot summer morning, these really hit the spot. You can make your own at home with a popsicle mold, Greek yogurt, fruit, and granola. Now you have something you can grab and eat on the way out the door. Greek yogurt is low in sugar and high in calcium, and the fruit helps boost your antioxidant and fiber intake for the day.

Yogurt and fruit parfait

If you have a few minutes in the morning, this layered parfait is a perfect treat to start your day. Mix yogurt and almond butter for the bottom layer, then add chopped almonds and fruit. Layer again and top with sunflower seeds. You can swap out peanut butter or sunflower seed butter for almond butter if you're not an almond butter fan.
